SIVASAGAR, Dec 18: A husband and wife were killed in a tragic road accident at Rupohimukh on National Highway 37 near Gaurisagar early this morning. The deceased have been identified as Bipul Hatimuria (51) and his wife Namita Chetia (31).
The accident occurred around 5.30 AM when the Hyundai Xcent car (AS-04 AJ 863) in which the family was travelling collided head-on with a dumper bearing registration number HR 39 F 2359. The couple died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

Their two-year-old son Riyans and the driver of the car, identified as Arunjyoti Seal, sustained serious injuries in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be critical.
According to sources, the deceased couple were returning to their residence at Betbari in Sivasagar district from Tamulpur at the time of the mishap. Local residents alleged that reckless driving by the car driver was the primary cause of the accident. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
