Cultural competition held in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council

DIPHU, Dec 28: The Karbi Traditional Music, Culture & Research Institute (KTMC&RI) has organised the 1st Inter-institute cultural competition from Wednesday at KTMC&RI, Lorulangso with the assistance of the Art & Culture department, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

In the inaugural function held at Rangsina Sarpo auditorium, Lorulangso, the deputy director, Art & Culture, Rani Terangpi said the idea of having a cultural institute to teach to the younger generations on Karbi traditional forms of dance, songs and music by experts was thought by former HAD minister, Sum Ronghang, when he was executive member, KAAC for Art & Culture.

Later, the EM, KAAC for Art & Culture, Bidyasing Rongpi, who also had the same interest for art and culture set up the KTMC&RI.

“Through KTMC&RI, the various Karbi traditional forms of dance, songs and dance could be taught to new learners and also do research,” the deputy director said.

She also said when the cultural institute was set up, admission was in large numbers, but now it has gradually come down.

The inaugural function was attended by president, Karbi Cultural Society, Chandrasing Kro; Padmashree Dhaneswar Engti and general secretary, Rasinja Asong, Phulmati Teronpi.

After the inaugural function, competition on various cultural dances and songs took place. The competing cultural institutes are, KTMC&RI, Hamren cultural institute, Dengkimo cultural institute, Centre bazaar and Hanjanglangso cultural institute.

The events included Chengpi keparmang, Recho kangthum-karne acheng, Terank chepadi, Rongketong acheng, Chengburup (kihir), Ritnong Chingdi, Nimso kerung, Lunse keplang, Tuva-eh, Mosera kehir, Oso kepadok/kebai, Nengpi-Nengso kachingki, Adam asar chihut-chiput, Bong-oi, Lengpum Sokchon and Kai alammo kethan.
