MANGALDAI, Aug 16: The Darrang District Administration felicitated Rajen Baitha, a meritorious student from Gerimari village near Mangaldai, for securing admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela. The felicitation ceremony was held at the office of the District Commissioner on the evening of August 14.
District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakati presented Rajen with a laptop, a traditional Assamese gamosa, and a certificate of appreciation in the presence of his mother, Meena Devi.
Mangaldai MLA Basanta Das, Additional District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Das, District Project Manager of Assam Skill University and Grievance Redressal Officer Deepjyoti Baishya, Mangaldai Media Circle President Bhargav Kumar Das, and Advisor Hitesh Hazarika also extended their congratulations. Former Barpeta Superintendent of Police Sushanta Biswa Sharma, who had earlier served in Darrang, along with the SRD Group of Companies, had provided financial assistance to Rajen.
Rajen, the only son of Ganesh Baitha, a laundry worker in Mangaldai, and Meena Devi, overcame difficult circumstances with determination. While assisting his family by ironing clothes during the day, he qualified for the OIL Super 30 programme in 2024. He secured an All India Rank of 3625 (Scheduled Caste category) in JEE Main and Advanced, scoring 49 marks, which earned him a seat in the Industrial Design branch at NIT Rourkela.
