MANGALDAI, July 26: Rajen Baitha, son of laundryman Ganesh Baitha and Mina Devi of Gerimari village near Mangaldai town in Assam, has secured admission to the B.Tech program in Industrial Design at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, Odisha.
Rajen, who spent his teenage years ironing clothes, harboured a dream of becoming an engineer.

In 2024, he was selected for the OIL Super 30 program, which supports underprivileged students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
At the program’s Nagaon centre, he underwent intensive coaching and went on to secure a score of 49 in JEE Advanced 2025, earning an All India SC rank of 3625.
He is scheduled to join NIT Rourkela on August 20, 2025.
A former student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Darrang, Rajen had scored 82.2% in his Class XII CBSE exams, with 98 marks in Computer Science.
His achievement adds to his family’s academic milestones—his elder sister had secured first division in her HS exams and was awarded a scooty by the Assam government, while his younger sister recently completed her HS in Arts under AHSEC.
The Mangaldai Media Circle, led by President Bhargab Kumar Das and Secretary Mayukh Goswami, felicitated Rajen for his accomplishment, calling it a source of pride and inspiration for the region.
