GUWAHATI, July 15: In a bid to enhance rail facilities in north-east and Assam, Rs 10,369 crores have been allocated in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 60 stations in the north-east are being redeveloped with world-class modern amenities and facilities. Among the selected railway stations, Dhemaji Railway Station will receive a significant facelift under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of Rs 6.34 crores. The revamping of this station will provide modern, state-of-the-art amenities to railway users in the nearby areas.
Dhemaji Railway Station is an important station that serves Dhemaji town and falls under the Tinsukia division of NFR. Significant physical progress has been achieved in the various ongoing and proposed redevelopment works at the station. Moreover, plans for 12m wide FOBs with retail kiosks and other passenger amenities are underway. New FOBs with lifts will be installed to ensure efficient connectivity between platforms and station areas, with special consideration for accessibility by divyangjan. Locations for FOBs have been finalised, and a separate master plan is being prepared.
New toilet blocks will be constructed separately for male and female passengers, alongside other amenities. Plans for platform layout, signage, drainage, cable routes, etc., are also in progress. The station will include provisions for rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, electric substations, EI buildings, and solar plants. Proper lighting and signage will ensure the station premises are safe and easily accessible for all passengers. Improved parking facilities and beautification of the circulating area are also planned. A separate entry-exit path will be developed to enhance passenger accessibility.
The upgrade of this station will create new opportunities for employment and business, and enhance travel convenience for passengers. The upgraded station will serve as a hub for socio-economic activities in the vicinity, promoting connectivity and economic growth.
