HAFLONG, May 8: In a concerted effort to become closer and more familiar with the issues faced by the general masses residing in rural areas, Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Nazreen Ahmed visited a number of villages such as Sampardisa, N.Leikul, Kellolo, Semdikhor, Gunjung and had a very close knit conversation with the villagers on Saturday.

The villagers expressed their gratitude during the course of her visit and put forward the obstacles faced by them such as poor roads, inadequate streets, poor condition of ME & LP schools.
The deputy commissioner assured that all possible measures to address the bottlenecks will be taken by the district administration in collaboration with the district council at the earliest.
The deputy commissioner also had interactions with them on practicing alternative means of livelihood other than jhum cultivation as it is resulting in immense reduction of forest cover and suggested them to take up farming, mushroom cultivation, betel nut plantation, etc., which are more eco-friendly and require lesser effort.
Discussions were also made on keeping the villages clean and green as Dima Hasao has become a tourist paradise and it helps generate more revenue.
Sensitisation on several govt schemes designed for the well being of the rural masses was also done.
Visits were also made to N.Leikul ME & LP schools where way and measures to enroll more students were discussed with the teachers and the teaching staff was suggested to introduce innovative ways in making the village people aware of the benefits and power of education and also urged them to dedicate their best effort towards their profession.
