Dima Hasao reviews preparedness against JE, Dengue during monsoon

HAFLONG, June 23: A meeting of the District Task Force under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) was held at the Officers’ Conference Hall of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Haflong to review preparedness and strengthen preventive measures against Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), Dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

The meeting focused on enhancing surveillance activities and adopting effective strategies for the prevention and control of JE and Dengue, particularly in view of the increased risk of disease transmission during the ongoing monsoon season.

Participants discussed the need for coordinated efforts among various departments to contain the spread of vector-borne diseases through timely intervention, awareness campaigns and strengthened field-level monitoring.

The meeting was chaired by ACS Partha Sarathi Jahari, Principal Secretary of NCHAC, and attended by ACS Rebecca Changsan, Joint Secretary of NCHAC.

Senior officials from the District Health Services, Public Health Engineering Department, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, Social Welfare Department, Agriculture Department, Education Department, Municipal Boards and other line departments also participated in the deliberations.

Officials reviewed the existing preparedness measures and shared suggestions to strengthen the district’s response mechanism against seasonal outbreaks.

Emphasis was laid on improving inter-departmental coordination, intensifying public awareness campaigns and ensuring effective implementation of preventive measures at the grassroots level.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of community participation in maintaining sanitation, eliminating mosquito breeding sites and promptly reporting suspected cases to health authorities.

The District Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surveillance and disease-control measures to safeguard public health and minimise the impact of vector-borne diseases during the monsoon season.
