DIPHU, Feb 4: The 3rd edition of the pet show, organised by the Pet Show Committee of Karbi Anglong in collaboration with Pet Centre and All Paws and Claws, took place at the Diphu Government Boys HS School Playground on Sunday. Diphu town’s pet owners showcased 120 dogs and cats, representing both indigenous and exotic breeds.
Former principal of Diphu Government Girls High School, Amitabh Shome, inaugurated the pet show. To participate in the event, dogs and cats had to meet specific criteria, including being vaccinated, well-groomed, and properly trained.
Judges for the show were invited from outside, including Dr Pradyut Sarma, a renowned veterinarian from Guwahati, Dr Mrinal Das from Guwahati, and Dr Rupal Kr Nath from Nagaon.
Over 100 pets, including dogs and cats, were presented at the show. Dr Lonee Dutta, the president of the Pet Show Committee of Karbi Anglong, expressed that the primary goal of organizing the event was to foster a strong bond between animals and their owners. Dr Dutta emphasised the unconditional love that animals provide and urged pet owners to reciprocate that love.
Ratan Sing Ronghang, the secretary of the Pet Show Committee of Karbi Anglong Health, outlined the three criteria considered in judging a pet.
In the large breed category for dogs, the first prize went to ‘Snowy’ – a White Retriever owned by Arim Timungpi. The second prize was awarded to ‘Orca’ – a German Shepherd owned by Drishti Rongpipi, and the third prize went to ‘Ginger’ – a Retriever owned by Klarchari Timung.
In the small breed category for dogs, the first prize was awarded to ‘Puffy’ – a Culture Spitz owned by Dengmirso Timungpi. The second prize went to ‘Agriti’, owned by Abhijet Medhi, and the third prize was claimed by ‘Max’, owned by Dr Lakhimai Beypi.
In the local/crossbreeds category for dogs, the first prize was secured by ‘Kalu’, owned by Khirud Lahon. The second prize was awarded to ‘Djangpo’, owned by Prateeek Sharma, and the third prize went to ‘Tuk-Tuk’, owned by Bandana Das. The ‘Best of the Best’ title was once again claimed by ‘Puffy’, owned by Dengmirso Timung. ‘Orca’ of Drishti Rongpipi received the ‘Best Discipline’ award, and ‘Snowy’ of Arim Timungpi was recognised as the ‘Best Groomed’.
In the cat category, the first prize was given to ‘Chunu’ – a Persian cat owned by Arni Phangchopi. The second prize was awarded to ‘Elsa’ – a Himalayan cat owned by Heromi Maslai, and the third prize went to ‘Jiro’ – a local breed owned by Rajdeepa Bora.
Winners were felicitated with trophies, certificates, and supplies of dog/cat food.
