DIPHU, June 12: On Monday, a district-level workshop on the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Axom (Foundational Literacy Numeracy – FLN) was held at the auditorium of the new Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) secretariat building in Diphu. The workshop was organized by Sarbha Siksha Abhijan (SSA), Karbi Anglong.
Richard Tokbi, the Executive Member (EM) of KAAC’s Education department, attended the workshop as the Chief Guest. He highlighted that the FLN program aims to help children learn through play and develop reading and writing skills at an early stage. The EM commended the organizers for sharing the NIPUN Bharat FLN initiative with all stakeholders and thanked the teachers from various educational blocks for demonstrating the Teaching Learning Materials (TLM). He urged everyone involved to work diligently towards achieving FLN among all children by 2025.
Barithe Timung, the FLN consultant, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on G20 and FLN, emphasizing that FLN for children means they should be able to read simple sentences with comprehension and solve basic math problems by the end of Grade 3. The Government of India has launched the NIPUN Bharat Mission for FLN, aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy among all children by 2025. FLN aims to create an inclusive classroom environment through play, discovery, and activity, enabling children to engage in reading, writing, comprehension, reasoning, and independent problem-solving.
NIPUN Bharat (FLN) targets children between the ages of 3 and 9, including pre-school to Grade 3, as well as children in Grades 4 and 5 who have not acquired foundational skills. In Karbi Anglong, NIPUN Bharat FLN has been implemented in 1,112 schools, including 1,105 pre-LP schools from Grade 1 to 5, 3 Middle Vernacular (MV) schools from Grade 1 to 8, and 4 tea garden managing schools.
