NAGAON, July 4: A workshop on the promotion and development of the tourism and hospitality sector was held at the conference hall of the Jugijan Development Block in Hojai on July 1.
The event was organised by Hojai Unnayan Manch (HUM), a local NGO, in collaboration with the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC), Hojai.
The programme was sponsored and implemented by the Assam Small Industries Development Corporation (ASIDC) Ltd under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme—a World Bank-supported Central Sector Scheme under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
The workshop focused on highlighting the significance of tourism, hygiene, and soft skills such as etiquette, behavioural traits, and communication.
It also aimed to spread awareness about various government schemes related to the sector.
Over 40 participants from the local resort and hospitality industry of Hojai district took part in the event.
The programme was inaugurated by Rupanjit Bhattacharya, General Manager (in-charge) of DICC, Hojai. Secretary of HUM, Sujay Kumar Dutta, welcomed the attendees, while Yasmin Laskar of ASIDC spoke on the potential of rural tourism in the region.
Khagen Saikia and Hemanta Baishya from the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, participated as key resource persons and delivered detailed sessions on the scope and prospects of the tourism and hospitality sector.
Local agro-resort entrepreneur Oryza Eco Farm also encouraged participants and visitors to explore the tourism potential of Hojai.
The attendees expressed satisfaction with the workshop and extended their appreciation to the organisers.
