DIPHU, Sept 5: VP Singh, Director of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Statistics Division, Government of India, concluded a three-day review visit to the three Aspirational Blocks of Karbi Anglong—Samelangso, Nilip, and Rongmongve—from September 2 to 4.
During the visit, the Director was accompanied by senior state officials and was received by Dr Kamal Kanti Das, District AH & Veterinary Officer; Dr Hongbari Engtipi, Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer (SDVO); and his team.
Singh carried out detailed reviews of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in each block, including vaccination coverage, artificial insemination (AI) services, fodder development, and the functioning of Mobile Veterinary Units (MVU).
He interacted directly with Block Veterinary Officers, field staff, Pashusakhis, and farmers to assess the on-ground implementation of central schemes such as the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP), which covers CSF (pig), PPR (goat), FMD (cattle), and Brucella (female calves 4 and 8 months) vaccinations, and the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, which promotes breed improvement through AI using conventional and sex-sorted semen.
The Director commended the efforts of the district department and offered recommendations, which include enhancing awareness and reach of MVU and AI services, ensuring complete vaccination coverage in interior villages, creating more fodder plots, and improving convergence with other block-level departments.
He also emphasized the need for media coverage to increase farmer awareness of the Aspirational Blocks Programme.
The District AH & Veterinary Department, Karbi Anglong, expressed commitment to implementing these recommendations and highlighted the need for additional infrastructure, manpower, diagnostic facilities, and training institutes to further improve veterinary services in the Aspirational Blocks.
