DIPHU, Nov 14: The Karbi Students Association (KSA- Thangsing Timung) has strongly condemned the dismantling of a foundation stone for construction of Forest IB at Sabuda under Chinthong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong.
The incident took place near the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya on the night of November 12 last.
It may be mentioned here that the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang had laid the foundation stone for construction of forest guest house on his visit at Umrukhuti for the Amur Falcon festival on November 12. On the same night some unknown miscreants damaged the stone.
In a press conference held here at KSA Central Executive Committee office at Rongthe-ang on Monday, the president, KSA, Thangsing Timung said the incident is very unfortunate.
Timung said, “Ronghang has planned for development of the inter-state boundary in West Karbi Anglong and has laid the foundation stone for construction of the forest guest house. It is very unfortunate on the inter-state border.”
The KSA president also said that the inter-state issue is a Central government subject and both the governments of Meghalaya and Assam cannot do anything without the interference of the Central government. The people of both sides should respect each other’s boundaries, he said.
Timung also made clear that the boundary of Karbi Anglong district was demarcated through a government notification in 1951 and there is nothing to be confused about it. The Block –I and –II is not a disputed area as it is well inside Karbi Anglong.
Timung urged the Khasis of Meghalaya and its government not to instigate its people and as the Central government will solve the inter-state boundary issue soon.
