Dr Hemari Kro receives Assam Samaj Gaurav Samman-2

DIPHU, March 9: Dr Hemari Kro, an education official from Karbi Anglong, has been conferred the ‘Assam Samaj Gaurav Samman-2’ for his contributions to social upliftment through educational service and charitable initiatives.

The award was presented at a function organised by Sadhana Sahitya Samaj in collaboration with Assam Guard at the Guwahati Town Club Hall on Sunday, coinciding with the observance of International Women’s Day.

As part of the event, 101 women from across the state who have excelled in various fields were honoured with the ‘Assam Mahasati Samman-2026’ for their achievements and contributions to society.

In addition, 31 socially active men, including Dr Kro, received the Assam Samaj Gaurav Samman-2 award.

Speaking to the media, Dr Kro said he was pleasantly surprised to receive the honour.

“I am glad to receive the award. I was not aware of it earlier, but the organisers informed me through a letter after reviewing my work,” he said.

Dr Kro has been actively involved in supporting education for underprivileged students.

He voluntarily taught at a school for two years without pay and has also assisted needy students through tutorial support and other educational initiatives.

Earlier, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) in Education and Social Welfare by the Advisory Selection Board of the Bharat Virtual Open Education University.

On March 21, 2025, he received the ‘Samaj Sewak Prerona Award’ from the Uttar Purvanchal Prerona Samanay Unnayan Charitable Trust, and on January 24, 2026, he was presented a ‘Special Award’ jointly by the Assam Sports Association and the Assam Socio-Cultural Association for his contribution to education and social service.

Dr Kro currently serves as Head Assistant in the office of the Inspector of Schools (Karbi Anglong District Circle) and is also the Superintendent-in-Charge for the Additional Director of Education under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

The award ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Assamese actor Jatin Bora.
