Dr KM Bhagawati retires after 33 years of service at DHSK Commerce College

DIBRUGARH, Oct 1: Dr KM Bhagawati, a highly respected and dedicated academician, retires as the principal of DHSK Commerce College on Monday, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning over three decades of service.

He joined the college as a lecturer in Management on August 19, 1991, and ascended to the position of principal on January 18, 2012. His contributions to the college have left an indelible mark on its growth and development.

Throughout his career, Dr Bhagawati held multiple roles before becoming principal, including NSS programme officer, caretaker officer (CTO) of NCC, and coordinator of the Information and Career Guidance Cell.

These positions showcased his commitment to the holistic development of students, as he mentored them in academics, leadership, and community service.

As principal, Dr Bhagawati led the college through two successful NAAC assessments and accreditations in 2018 and 2024, reflecting his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of education and institutional excellence.

His vision also guided the completion of several critical audits, including the Academic Audit in 2022, as well as Green and Energy Audits, further enhancing the college’s sustainability and academic framework.

Beyond academics, Dr Bhagawati was an architect of change, literally and figuratively. Under his leadership, numerous infrastructural advancements were made, including the construction of boys’ and girls’ hostels and the development of several new buildings, all of which have significantly improved the facilities and environment for both students and faculty.

Dr Bhagawati’s contributions extended beyond the college campus. He was recognised with the Best Blood Donor Award, exemplifying his commitment to social service.

As a member of SEWA, a prominent NGO in Dibrugarh, he actively participated in numerous community welfare initiatives, further cementing his role as a leader who not only cared for his institution but also for society at large.

His retirement marks the end of an era for DHSK Commerce College, but the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire generations of students and faculty. Dr KM Bhagawati’s dedication, leadership, and passion for education have transformed the college into a beacon of academic excellence and holistic development.
