BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 15: Acting on a tip-off, a team of Biswanath Police led by Amit Kumar Hojai, APS, additional SP (Crime), Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, officer-in-charge of Sootea PS, Abhijit Bharali, IC Itakhola Outpost, apprehended Khairul Islam (21) from Itakhola Tengabasti area, originally from Chariduar PS. The police recovered 48 suspected heroin vials totaling 64 grams from his possession on Sunday night around 9:30 pm.
According to Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, officer-in-charge of Sootea PS, the police received confidential information about the drug peddler. The team laid in wait at Tengabati for the peddler to arrive in a car with registration number AS 23 D 0114. Upon his arrival, the police apprehended him, seized the drugs, and impounded his vehicle. Further investigation is ongoing.
The Khanamuk area and Itakhola have emerged as hotspots for drug peddling. While police have apprehended several drug peddlers, the trade continues to thrive. Concerned citizens have urged the police and civil administration to address the issue seriously.
