DHUBRI, March 8: As the financial year draws to a close, the District Transport Office (DTO) of Dhubri has intensified its operations to recover pending taxes and enforce road safety regulations. In a massive two-day crackdown, transport officials seized 36 e-rickshaws for various violations, including non-payment of taxes and lack of valid registration.
The drive is part of a larger month-long initiative aimed at ensuring all vehicle owners in the district clear their outstanding dues before the March 31 deadline. The enforcement wing’s rigorous efforts have already yielded significant results for the state treasury.
According to official data, the revenue collected through fines and tax clearances during this enforcement period has already surpassed the 2 crore mark. District Transport Officer (DTO) Dibyajyoti Karjee, who is leading the initiative, emphasised that the department is not just focused on penalties but on compliance.
The seizure of 36 e-rickshaws in two days marks a specific focus on the growing unregulated transport sector in Dhubri town. Many of these vehicles were found to be operating without the necessary permits, contributing to both revenue loss and traffic congestion.
The DTO office has warned that the frequency of these “spot-check” drives will increase as the March 31 deadline approaches. In addition to e-rickshaws, commercial trucks, private cars and two-wheelers with long-standing tax defaults are also on the department’s radar. Residents are encouraged to use the online Parivahan portal or visit the DTO Dhubri office to settle their dues and avoid having their vehicles towed or blacklisted.
