Nagaon district transport officer, on Thursday, urged all the owners of commercial vehicles of the district to pay their outstanding taxes as well as other dues to the department concerned on or before December 31 next.
While speaking to this correspondent here on Thursday afternoon, DTO Sunit Bora, Nagaon said over several hundred owners of commercial vehicles have not paid their outstanding taxes or other dues to the department till date for which the district transport department will initiate strict action against them as they are yet to pay their dues from the very first week of the upcoming new year.
Moreover, he said that the officials from the district transport department seized several hundreds of commercial as well as private vehicles of such defaulters or other transgression of rules on road and stored them at its office premise for over months or years.
But the owners of these vehicles have not contacted the officials of the district transport department or come ahead to release their vehicles by paying their taxes or other penalties till today, DTO Bora said, adding further that if they would not take any initiative to release their vehicles on or before December 31 by clearing their dues or other penalties, the department concerned would go for auction of their vehicles as early as possible.
Those who are yet to pay their outstanding taxes or other dues for their commercial as well as private vehicles, the department will initiate strict measures against them too and for that the enforcement officials will go even to their doorsteps for seizing their vehicles at their respective residences itself, Bora said further.
