DHUBRI, Feb 8: A shocking incident of road rage followed by mob violence occurred in the heart of Dhubri town on Saturday, leaving a local resident injured and raising serious concerns about public safety. A bike rider was allegedly intercepted, assaulted and robbed by a group of individuals on a busy highway in full public view.
The incident took place at around 9 AM when Prakash Kumar Shah, a resident of Nuniapatti area under Ward No 10, was on his way to drop his young daughter at Happy Convent School. According to the complaint, an e-rickshaw bearing registration number AS 17ER 2029 took a sudden turn and collided with Shah’s motorcycle.

The impact caused Shah and his school-going daughter to fall onto the road. Local bystanders rushed to their aid, following which an argument reportedly broke out between Shah and the e-rickshaw driver. Before proceeding to the school, Shah took a photograph of the e-rickshaw on his mobile phone and informed the driver that he would approach the police to seek legal action over the accident.
After dropping his daughter at school, Shah headed towards the Dhubri Sadar Police Station to lodge a complaint. However, at Police Point No 2, his motorcycle was allegedly stopped by a group of individuals who blocked his path. The attackers reportedly dragged Shah along with his bike, pulled his T-shirt over his face to blindfold him and then subjected him to a brutal physical assault.
As stated in the First Information Report (FIR) later lodged by the victim, the assailants also looted Rs 45,000 in cash from his pocket during the attack. The violence reportedly stopped after another group of local residents intervened and rescued Shah, helping to defuse the situation.
Following the incident, Shah approached the Dhubri Sadar Police Station and filed a formal FIR. While the injured man’s condition has been recorded, no arrests had been made till the filing of this report.
The incident has triggered strong reactions among concerned sections of the public in Dhubri, with many questioning the safety of commuters on the town’s main roads and the increasing incidents of mob violence in broad daylight. Police officials have confirmed that an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
