The meeting, held in the office of Vice-Chancellor Dr Mahadev Patgiri, was attended by North Lakhimpur University Vice-Chancellor Prof Mukul Chandra Bora, Academic Registrar Dr Tridib Mohanta, Registrar Dr Prafulla Kalita and social worker Bitopan Raidangia.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the university’s academic environment, infrastructure development, staffing position in various departments and other institutional issues.

The Minister also reviewed the utilisation of the ₹10 crore allocated earlier for infrastructure development at the university.

Responding to concerns over the financial condition of colleges and universities, Pegu said universities and autonomous colleges should strive to mobilise resources independently.

He added that any additional financial support from the government would be considered in the future if necessary.

Addressing queries regarding complaints from parents over the quality of free uniforms distributed to students in government primary schools, the Minister said reducing the polyester content would substantially increase costs and that the present budgetary allocation does not permit such changes.

Pegu also assured that the State Government would release the pending 10 per cent reimbursement for the free admission scheme in colleges after the conclusion of the Budget Session.

The visit formed part of the Minister’s tour of Sivasagar district to review educational institutions and discuss issues relating to higher education.
