In his resignation letter addressed to Bhabesh Kalita, the president of the Assam BJP, he said, “I tender my resignation from the BJP State Executive Committee and primary membership as well, due to the ongoing odd situation arising all over in the society. In the greater interest of national integrity, peace and development I am quitting the BJP party.”

Engleng was a former CEM of KAAC and former MLA from Howraghat constituency of Karbi Anglong district in Assam. He had won the seat in 2016 Assembly elections with a BJP ticket. However, in 2019 state Assembly elections, the ticket was given to the former Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) and sitting MLA Dorsing Ronghang.

When contacted, Engleng said, “I am no longer in the BJP. I have submitted my resignation letter yesterday to BJP Assam and from that very moment I am free. As the president was not available, I submitted my resignation letter to one of the secretaries at the BJP Assam office.”

He also said it will take a few days for him to decide in which direction he will move and decide which will be better for him.
