Women beneficiaries receive Rs 9,000 each

HOWRAGHAT, March 10: In the ongoing BJP government’s move towards women’s empowerment, over 300 beneficiaries from the Okkereng area under the Nomati Council Constituency were officially granted financial assistance under the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme on Tuesday. Each recipient received an amount of Rs 9,000.

To mark the occasion, a large-scale public meeting was organised at Okkereng, drawing a crowd of several thousand women from across the Nomati constituency. The event highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to providing a financial safety net for underprivileged households.

The distribution ceremony was graced by several prominent leaders and officials from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the local administration, including Ritesh Enghi, Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council; Britain Mahela, Chairman, Nomati Constituency VDC; Pradip Ingti, Chairman, Dokmoka (Dengao) Municipal Board and Jornel Ronghang, former Chairman, Development Block Board.

During the meeting, the speakers emphasised that the Orunodoi scheme remains a cornerstone of social welfare in the region. By depositing funds directly into the bank accounts of the female heads of households, the initiative aims to alleviate poverty and ensure nutritional and medical security for families.

The massive turnout of women at the event underscores the local impact of the scheme and the community’s engagement with developmental initiatives in Karbi Anglong.

Our Margherita Correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the State, the Orunodoi 3.0 Special Financial Assistance Distribution Programme was organised on Tuesday at Hamukjan Gaon Panchayat under Margherita Development Block where beneficiaries present also witnessed the live address of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, delivered as part of the statewide programme.

The programme was attended by 83rd Margherita LAC MLA Bhaskar Sharma,Rahul Doley Co-District Commissioner, Margherita, Rohit Kumar Yadav Block Development officer Margherita Development Block, Gaon Panchayat presidents, Panchayat Secretaries, officials from various departments, beneficiaries and members of the media.

A total of 28,622 beneficiaries under Margherita Development Block are being covered under Orunodoi 3.0 where under this scheme, eligible women beneficiaries receive Rs 1,250 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer, along with Rs 9,000 additional financial assistance covering four months, as announced by the Chief Minister.

The programme was simultaneously organised across various Gaon Panchayats, Municipal Wards and VCDC areas under Margherita Development Block to facilitate the distribution of benefits to eligible beneficiaries.
