GUWAHATI, March 15: Assam reported its first case of H3N2 virus on Wednesday as experts and doctors urged people to wear masks in the state.
H3N2 is a subtype of the viral genus Influenza virus A, which is one of the important causes of human influenza. This virus can infect birds and mammals also.
As per reports, at least three death cases related to H3N2 virus have been registered in India so far.
Assam’s health department said it is keeping a “close watch on the evolving influenza situation in the state through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) network on a real-time basis”.
“District surveillance officers under the IDSP network are fully geared to meet this public health challenge in every district of Assam in line with the guidelines formulated by the central government and ICMR,” the state health department said.
“The Health Department of Assam is keeping a close watch on the evolving Seasonal Influenza situation in Assam through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) network on a real-time basis,” NHM, Assam said in a press release.
