DIPHU, Nov 1: The Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, inaugurated the first Tiwa medium school at Ulukunchi LP School under Amri Education Block on Friday. The event was attended by local MAC members, KAAC Executive Member D Uphing Maslai, Baithalangso MLA Rupsing Teron, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, and other dignitaries.
The Assam government has notified 62 Lower Primary Schools in Morigaon, Karbi Anglong, and West Karbi Anglong districts as Tiwa medium schools to allow students to learn in their mother tongue. Of these, 40 schools will be in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, with 33 in the Amri MAC constituency due to a higher concentration of the Tiwa community.
Speaking at the inauguration, CEM Tuliram Ronghang said this is the first Tiwa medium school in the history of the Tiwa community and announced that teachers for these schools will be appointed by KAAC next year. EM Maslai highlighted the government’s support and the importance of preserving Tiwa language and culture, calling on the community to strengthen and develop their heritage.
The program was also attended by Tiwa Mathonlai Tokhra president Horsing Kholar, Tiwa Cultural Society president Kumud Mithi and other community leaders.
