NAGAON, July 3: The flood situation in Kaliabor remains dire, with flood-affected people from the greater Jakhalabandha area staging a protest at Jakhalabandha market against the district administration and local MLA & minister Keshab Mahanta for failing to provide flood relief. During the protest, demonstrators voiced slogans criticising the MLA and minister Mahanta, as well as the district administration.
The protesters sternly criticised the MLA and minister Mahanta, alleging that despite assurances from them and the district administration to provide food, water, and other essential supplies to flood victims, none had been provided even a water bottle in the last 24 hours. This neglect forced flood-affected people in the area to endure hunger until Wednesday.
Meanwhile, MLA and minister Keshab Mahanta hurried to the protest site to manage the situation. He instructed concerned officials from the sub-division to promptly deliver food and other essentials to flood victims in the area, according to sources.
