MORIGAON, July 2: As heavy rains continue to swell the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, water levels have surged above the danger mark, inundating a total of 156 villages across Bhuragaon, Mayang, and Laharighat Revenue Circles in Morigaon district. Of these, 53 villages in Bhuragaon RC, 75 villages in Mayang RC, and 28 villages in Laharighat RC are currently submerged, causing significant hardship to residents and livestock. The district administration has swiftly responded by distributing relief items to the affected areas and has implemented necessary measures to manage the ongoing flood situation.

Additional district commissioners, circle officers, and other administrative officials visited the flood-affected regions to assess the extent of damage on Tuesday. Election officer Jagriti Kalwar inspected flood-hit areas in Kathni, Baglipara, and other parts of Laharighat Revenue Circle, assessing the impact of the floods on local communities. Additionally, Mayong circle officer Priyanka Gogoi conducted visits to several villages and markets, responding to complaints of price gouging on cooking gas cylinders amid the flood crisis. She emphasised that cooking gas cylinders must not be sold above fixed prices under any circumstances.

While areas under Morigaon Revenue Circle have not yet been affected, circle officer Manika Bargohain monitored the situation in Raina Pathar. Similarly, Apritam Goswami, circle officer of Bhuragaon RC, assessed the flood-affected areas under his jurisdiction. Additional district commissioner Pallavi Kachari and Laharighat circle officer Bikash Chetri also conducted inspections in their respective areas to ensure adequate response to the flood situation.
