NAGAON, April 29: Birinchi Kr Karzee, a food inspector working in the office of Joint Director Health Services, Nagaon was caught red handed in his office on Friday here by a team of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption from Guwahati while accepting a bribe from a businessman.
Sources claimed that Karzee demanded Rs one lakh from the businessman for issuing a food security license and when Karzee accepted Rs 10,500 on Friday from the businessman as the first installment, he was caught red handed by the vigilance and anti-corruption squad.
Meanwhile Simultaneous searches were conducted, soon after his apprehension in Kamakhya Lodge, Nagaon and also in his house located at Juripar, Guwahati. It may be mentioned that Karjee has taken a room on rent in Kamakhya Lodge, sources said, adding further that the arrested food inspector was later brought to its headquarters in Guwahati for further investigation as well as legal proceedings.
During the search, Rs. 9,66,500/- (Nine lakh sixty six thousand five hundred only) has been recovered along with incriminating documents.
Significantly, Karzee was working as food security inspector for Nagaon, Morigaon, Hojai and West Karbi Anglong districts, sources added further.
