DIBRUGARH, March 24: In a historic moment, two former leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), who are now contesting the Lok Sabha election for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, were seen together seeking blessings at Haldibari Nagar Than in Moran on Sunday.
Sarbananda Sonowal and Lurinjyoti Gogoi were seen at the Haldibari Nagar Than engaging in conversation during their visits. They exchanged handshakes and mutual congratulations in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Sonowal, a prominent candidate from the BJP, and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the president of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and an INDIA alliance candidate, will be contesting for the prestigious Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat.
Addressing reporters, Sarbananda Sonowal stated, “I visited the Haldibari Than to seek blessings. I was previously elected from the Moran legislative assembly as an MLA, and I am deeply grateful for the love and support the people bestowed upon me. Moran has witnessed significant development under Chakradhar Gogoi’s leadership.”
“I have extended my best wishes to Lurinjyoti Gogoi,” Sonowal added.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi remarked, “We were once comrades in the AASU, with Sarbananda Sonowal being a senior figure in the organisation. However, our ideologies have diverged since then. While we stand against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he supports it. I stand with the people of Assam and will do what is necessary.”
Both leaders, accompanied by their supporters, visited the historic Haldibari Nagar Than in Moran to seek blessings.
