Guwahati, April 18: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell initiated a comprehensive operation at the residence of former assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Santosh Choudhury in Guwahati on Thursday.
The former ASI of Assam Police was targeted over alleged accumulation of disproportionate assets. A team from the anti-corruption agency conducted a raid at Santosh Choudhury’s North Guwahati residence. Choudhury was previously dismissed from service.
The operation aimed to evaluate his assets and compare them with his known income sources. The investigating agency reportedly has details of assets owned by Choudhury not only in Guwahati, but also in Bihar, which will be assessed in due course.
Choudhury, dismissed from the police service in 2022 over multiple instances of misconduct, was accused of blackmailing other government officials and extortion, leading to an alleged accumulation of disproportionate wealth.
Sources claim Choudhury has amassed over 200 per cent of wealth that does not align with his legal income sources.
