Assam: Four-wheeler carrying diesel seized

MARGHERITA, March 30: Acting on a tip of Lekhapani forest range office Parasmita Neog along with forest staff on Saturday evening hours seized a four-wheeler carrying diesel, bearing registration number AS-23DC-1662 from Bomgara under Lekhapani forest range office of Digboi Forest Division.

A patrol team of forest officials, led by Parasmita Neog Lekhapani forest range officer successfully confiscated the vehicle along with two drivers,200 litres diesel and the vehicle owner.

The two apprehended drivers have been identified as Rahul Singpho and Anil Prasad, and the vehicle owner identified as Kaushal Singh of Ledo.

It is worth mentioning that although illegal open-cast coal mining is currently stopped in Margherita Co-District, but some miscreants have not yet been deterred from their greed for this illegal coal mining as therefore from time to time, dumpers, JCBs, Poclain, Excavators and Max pick up vehicle carrying diesel used to operate such machinery are spotted from time to time.

At this point, it must also be mentioned that over the past two months, the Lekhapani forest reserve, Tipong forest reserve, Saleki forest reserve, Paharpur forest reserve and Namdang forest reserve area fell prey to the evil intentions of some unidentified miscreants, resulting in situations where it nearly turned into a blazing inferno on two occasions.

In such circumstances, for the sake of protecting this forest area, the Lekhapani forest range officer and all the forest staffs are now advancing with renewed strength which as a result, on saturday evening hours they have been able to seize a vehicle carrying diesel and detained its two drivers along with the vehicle owner identified as Kaushal Singh.
