SIVASAGAR, July 11: In a concerted effort to prevent the transmission of rabies and other fatal zoonotic diseases, the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Sivasagar, in collaboration with the Sivasagar District Administration, Sivasagar Municipal Board, and other stakeholders, launched a Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive starting on Thursday.
The drive, led by Dr Marzina Begum and Dr Chayanika Das, aims to safeguard public health while promoting animal welfare by curbing the spread of rabies, especially among the street dog population.
Officials said the campaign is designed to reduce the risk of rabies transmission to humans and create a healthier environment.
On the first day of the drive, 38 street dogs were vaccinated across several key areas of the town.
The campaign initially focused on densely populated zones including Babupatty, Central Market, and Thanamukh, ensuring broad and effective outreach.
The district veterinary department has reiterated its commitment to continue the drive in the coming days, with the goal of protecting both human and animal lives through proactive prevention and awareness.
