KOKRAJHAR, June 15: The two-day Golden Jubilee celebrations of Salakati High School concluded recently, commemorating the institution’s 50-year contribution to educational development in the greater Salakati area of Kokrajhar district.
The celebrations brought together former and current students, teachers, parents and local residents to mark the school’s journey since its establishment in 1976.
The institution received provincialisation in 2013 after serving the region for 37 years.
A public meeting held on the concluding day was attended by Kokrajhar MLA Sewli Mohilary as the chief guest.
During the programme, she unveiled a commemorative souvenir titled Sonali, published to mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Mohilary congratulated the school community on completing five decades of service and lauded the institution’s role in spreading education across the region.
She encouraged students to remain focused on their goals and strive for excellence while becoming responsible citizens.
The MLA also emphasised that the medium of instruction—whether English, Assamese or Bodo—should not be viewed as a barrier to quality education, adding that dedication and values are key to success.
Speaking on the occasion, BTC Executive Member and president of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Derhasat Basumatary, highlighted the school’s contribution to education despite facing infrastructural challenges over the years.
He assured that the BTC government would continue to support the institution’s development.
Basumatary announced that Salakati High School would be upgraded to a senior secondary school within the next two years.
He further informed that a two-storey academic building is being constructed with central government funding and that a 100-seat hostel under construction on the school campus is expected to be inaugurated after the summer vacation.
Among those present were Durga Hasda, Headmistress Rashmi Rekha Narzary, CRC Sanjiv Kumar Roy, Principal Hindu Basumatary, Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee executive president Nripen Chandra Roy, representatives of social organisations, former teachers, parents and local residents. The celebrations concluded with renewed commitments towards strengthening educational opportunities and infrastructure for students in the region.
