Governor visits Kokrajhar, advocates nationwide marketing strategies for BTR products

GUWAHATI, Aug 21: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria embarked on a two-day visit to Kokrajhar district on Monday, where he undertook a comprehensive review of various development schemes at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat. During his visit, the Governor highlighted the importance of equitable development and innovative marketing strategies to uplift the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Governor Kataria meticulously assessed the progress of Central and State Government Flagship Schemes, as well as initiatives carried out by the Government of BTR for the betterment of the local populace. He stressed the significance of efficient implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and urged officials to exercise vigilant monitoring to ensure timely progress of the schemes.

Notably, the Governor emphasized the necessity of balanced development across all four districts of BTR. He underlined the untapped potential in sectors such as Handlooms, Sericulture, Tourism, and Fisheries, and suggested the maximization of these opportunities. To achieve this, Governor Kataria proposed nationwide marketing strategies to amplify the reach of unique products native to the Bodoland Region.

The Green Bodoland Mission, a recent initiative by the BTR Government, also drew the Governor’s attention. He highlighted the importance of planting medicinal and economically significant plants and trees throughout BTR. Acknowledging the area’s natural abundance of flora and fauna, he recommended the exploration of Nature and Eco Tourism-based infrastructure.

In line with his commitment to holistic development, Governor Kataria advised the BTR functionaries to conduct consultations at the block level, engaging stakeholders to identify ground-level challenges for the swift execution of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana Housing Scheme. He also emphasized the enforcement of the MNREGA scheme by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to maximize public benefit.

Governor Kataria’s engagement extended to the Education Sector, where he applauded the BTR administration for their efforts to improve the system. He proposed the establishment of Model Schools in Tea Gardens across the four districts of BTR to enhance educational access.

Concluding his visit, the Governor extended his gratitude to the elected representatives of BTR and the officials for their dedicated service and commitment to public welfare. His visit encompassed interactions with beneficiaries of Government Schemes, demonstrating his commitment to understanding the ground-level impact of these initiatives.

The Governor’s visit to Kokrajhar and his insightful recommendations underscore his dedication to the holistic development of the region, ensuring that the potential of BTR is fully realized while improving the quality of life for its residents.
