HOJAI, Jan 29: Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya made a historic first visit to Rajbari village in Hojai on Wednesday as part of the “Governor in the Village” programme. The event was held at Tombapu-Jini Middle English School, near the historic Rajbari archaeological site, where the Governor interacted with over 1,000 villagers.
Villagers shared how government schemes such as Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and initiatives for women entrepreneurs have positively impacted their lives. Speaking to the gathering, Governor Acharya said, “Two days ago we celebrated Republic Day. Freedom fighters like Khudiram Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad and Assam’s Kanaklata Barua gave their lives for us. They wanted us to have homes, schools, roads, electricity, clean water, hospitals and water for farms. Now, thanks to our Prime Minister, we have these.” He added, “Assam is growing fast in society, culture, roads and education. Let’s all work together to make our village, society and country better.”
During the visit, the Governor honoured H Krishna Kumar Singha at his residence with a special award under the “Our Soil-Our Heroes” initiative for his efforts in protecting the historic Rajbari site.
The programme was attended by Hojai MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati, SP VV Rakesh Reddy, ADC Bonny Imam Shadab and other senior officials. Earlier in the day, the Governor participated as Chancellor in the third convocation of Rabindranath Tagore University. The event at Rajbari was inaugurated with local artistic performances and was anchored in Assamese by Chandanjyoti Borgohain, Lumding Co-District DC and in Hindi by senior journalist and social worker Ramesh Mundra.
