GUWAHATI, July 21: In line with the government’s Mission LiFE campaign, which aims to mobilise people to become ‘Pro-Planet People’, Assam-based biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak, in collaboration with the Guwahati Wildlife Division of Assam Forest department, organised a captivating ‘Nature Walk’ at the scenic Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary on July 18. Supported by the Wipro Foundation and Lea Associates South Asia Private Limited (LASA), the program aimed to offer participants a close encounter with the sanctuary’s flora, fauna, and overall biodiversity, fostering an appreciation for nature conservation.

Thirty individuals, including students and teachers from Sonaram Higher Secondary School, Narengi High School, and New Guwahati Adarsha High School, took part in the nature walk.
Parinita Singh, range officer of Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, provided detailed information about the sanctuary, engaging participants in discussions about various habitats and aspects of nature. Jayanta Kumar Pathak, senior manager at Aaranyak, emphasised the importance of forest ecosystems in urban landscapes and the effectiveness of forest therapy, including activities like tree hugging, during the nature walk.
The nature walk was facilitated by expert ornithologist Dr Nilutpal Mahanta, wildlife researcher Jigyas Baruah, Aaranyak’s Avishek Sarkar, and Akshay Upadhyay, who provided an insightful overview of forest and wildlife ecology. Basanta Bezbaruah, a senior official of LASA, also attended the program and interacted with the participants.
The event offered students a unique opportunity to connect with nature and gain in-depth knowledge about biodiversity in urban settings. Aaranyak officials Pranab Goswami and Wasima Begum efficiently coordinated the program, making the nature walk a memorable and educational experience for all.
