DIPHU, Nov 5: Hill’s People Cultural Forum (HPCF), a cultural forum of various tribes and communities, has given its support for the forthcoming Karbi Anglong Day celebration to commemorate the creation of United Mikir Hills and North Cachar Hills district now, Karbi Anglong district to be organised by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on November 16 and 17 at Ethnic Village of Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso.
The present Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts were created on November 17, 1951 by combining some parts of Golaghat, Nagaon and Cachar districts of Assam and United Khasi and Jaintia Hills districts of present day Meghalaya. The KAAC authority has worked out a plan for a grand two day celebration of Karbi Anglong Day.
Speaking to the media the chairman, HPCF, Laichan Engleng said, “We welcome the celebration of Karbi Anglong Day by KAAC to commemorate the constitution of erstwhile United Mikir Hills now Karbi Anglong district. By organising the Karbi Anglong Day, KAAC has aimed to promote peace and unity among all tribes and communities living here.”
Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Phenpiga Rengma said, “We thank the Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang for taking the initiative to celebrate the Karbi Anglong by bringing together all tribes and communities with the purpose of building peace and unity.”
Rengma said in the celebration, the KAAC has invited the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, CM of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma and CM of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio.
Celebrities like Shakti Kapoor, Indian playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan and contestant in the Indian Idol reality show Rito Riba of Arunachal Pradesh have also been invited for the two-day programme.
On November 16 there will be a cultural fashion show and performance by various artists.
