GUWAHATI, Sept 3: The state’s Karimganj Police made a significant discovery on Sunday, intercepting a tanker entering the state from a neighboring region at the Churaibari checkpoint. Acting on credible information, the police uncovered an extensive stash of 1,420 kilograms of cannabis concealed within the vehicle’s tank in the Karimganj district. In connection with this case, one individual has been apprehended.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, deeply impressed by the Assam Police’s swift action, lauded their efforts on the microblogging platform ‘X’, stating, “Based on reliable inputs, @karimganjpolice intercepted a tanker coming from a neighbouring State at Churaibari checkpost & recovered 71 packets of Ganja weighing 1,420 kg from its tank in Karimganj district. One person has been arrested in this regard. Great job @assampolice!”
In June, on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Karimganj district police, in coordination with the Assam administration, publicly incinerated a substantial quantity of seized drugs with an estimated value of Rs 225 crore.
