KOKRAJHAR, June 30: The National Integration Day of Santhals, known as Hul Divas, was observed on Sunday across the country to commemorate the 169th anniversary of the Santhali community’s pivotal role in the Indian independence movement.
In New Delhi, Hul Divas was organised at the Constitution Club by the All Santhal Students Union (ASSU), with leaders and members from various Santhal community organisations participating. Pramod Boro, chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), graced the occasion as the chief guest.

In his address, CEM Boro recalled the contributions and sacrifices of the Santhali community in India’s struggle for independence. He emphasised the significant role played by the Santhals in India’s journey towards freedom, particularly highlighting the Santhal Hul or rebellion of June 30, 1855, led by Sido Kanhu against the British Raj, during which many heroes sacrificed their lives.
“It was an honour to attend the Hul Divas commemorating the 169th National Integration Day of Santhals organised by the ASSU at Constitution Club, New Delhi,” said Boro. He also acknowledged the community’s ongoing contributions to the cultural and socio-economic development of the Bodoland Territorial Region.
“I hope that the community continues to grow and contribute even more to the region’s progress, with its language and culture gaining prominence globally. My best wishes on the National Integration Day of the Santhals,” Boro added.
The event in New Delhi was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, BTR executive member Wilson Hasda, and several dignitaries.
Meanwhile, in Kokrajhar, Hul Divas was observed at Kachugaon Community Hall, with a large gathering of community participants. BTR executive member Ukil Mushahary, Gossaigaon LAC MLA Jiran Basumatary, and BTR MCLA Madhab Chandra Chetry were present at the event, which also honoured the contributions and sacrifices of Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu in the Indian independence movement.
