BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 20: Acting on a tip-off, a joint team led by ASP (Crime) Biswanath, along with Sootea and Itakhola police, apprehended a husband-wife duo in connection with drug peddling on Monday evening in the Itakhola area.

The couple, identified as Narbu Thengdok and Chiring Dema, were found in possession of six containers of drugs. Narbu Thengdok is currently posted as Head Constable at the 3rd IRBN. Police investigations are ongoing.

The Itakhola region, which shares a boundary with Arunachal Pradesh, has reportedly become a hotspot for illegal trading, including drug and illicit liquor dealing. Officials noted that while small-time peddlers are being caught, the masterminds behind the drug network remain at large. Authorities emphasised that dismantling the larger network is crucial to curb addiction and mitigate its socio-economic impact on affected families.
