MARGHERITA, Aug 19: A new born baby died on Friday at the Tinsukia district’s Margherita Civil Hospital due to alleged negligence of doctors. Parents – Dip Likson and Anju Rajkhowa Likson exclaimed that at the time of delivering the child no doctors were available at the hospital. Hence, the duo said, “The infant died for not getting medical assistance and due care.”
Notably, Anju Rajkhowa Likson was admitted at the Margherita Civil Hospital on Thursday.

Talking to The Hills Times, the infant’s father Dip Likson said, “For reasons unknown to us, Dr Rajesh Gupta, a Gynecologist, of the civil hospital was not present at the time of my wife’s delivery. The delivery took place on Friday morning completely in the absence of medical staff. We do not even know why the child died.”
The suffering husband, Dilip Likson further alleged that they tried several times to establish a contact with Dr Rajesh Gupta and Dr Sachindra Barman who were likely to be on duty at the time of delivery. He said, “None of the absentees – Dr Gupta and Dr Barman, responded to our calls. My wife Anju Rajkhowa Likson has still been battling for her life and she has been forwarded to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. We are made to suffer for whose fault?”
Notably, the local residents of the town have since long been alleging negligence of duty by the doctors and other staff of the Margherita civil hospital. The locals have been categorically blaming the alleged untoward behavior and incautious acts of the civil hospital’s deputy superintendent Dr Kumud Chandra Das and his other junior colleagues.
The victims – Dip Likson and Anju Rajkhowa Likson are the residents of the district’s Kharangkung village under Lekhapani police station.
