SIVASAGAR, Aug 12: International Youth Day was observed by Charing Swahid Maniram Dewan College on Tuesday with various programmes.
Dr Bidyananda Borkakoty, Principal, SMD College, delivered the inaugural speech in the presence of Hemanta Dhing Majumdar, Assistant Secretary of Kamrup Chapter of the Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samity (BISS), Dr Juri Sharma, Chairperson, Women Committee of the teachers and students.
Majumdar, in his speech, said that “Bidya Dadati Binayam”, meaning that knowledge comes through humility and humbleness.
He said the new education system aims at developing the minds of students as well as their professional careers in various disciplines.
Earlier, Dr Barnalee Bhunyan, Assistant Professor, Philosophy, spoke on the importance of the day and the role of youths in nation-building.
The meeting was also attended by Dr Juri Sharma, Chairperson of the Women State Committee of BISS.
Urging the students to maintain good health, former India Bijit Gogoi said, “Fitness is very important in the modern world; one can do a job well only when he or she is fit.”
Journalist Manoj Kr Borthakur urged students to broaden their minds with new digital gadgets.
The students performed various cultural programmes during the function.
