DHUBRI, May 13: A significant theft occurred in broad daylight opposite the Dhubri Bar Association, where a bag containing rupees three lakhs was stolen from an E-stamp vendor stall. The stall is owned by Tapas Kumar Sil, brother of Tapan Kumar Seal, a resident of Ward No-15, Pyarimohan Lane, Dhubri.
According to the Tapas Kumar Sil, the stolen money was withdrawn from the main branch of the State Bank of India by Tapan Kumar Seal and was kept inside a bag at his E-stamp vending stall. The incident reportedly took place during the afternoon hours.
In a peculiar twist, the shop owner, Tapas Kumar Sil, recounted an unusual interaction just moments before the theft. A deaf and mute individual approached the stall and gestured towards some ten-rupee notes scattered in front of the shop. Believing the money might have fallen from a customer, Tapas Kumar Sil momentarily turned his attention to picking up the scattered currency to secure it.
It is suspected that this distraction was a deliberate tactic employed by the notorious “Irani Gang,” while Tapas Kumar Sil was focused on the scattered notes, members of the gang swiftly siphoned away the bag containing the rupees three lakhs in the blink of an eye.
The Dhubri police have been informed of the incident and have launched an investigation. The alleged involvement of the “Irani Gang,” known for their sophisticated distraction techniques in carrying out thefts, has raised concerns among local residents and business owners in Dhubri.
