HAFLONG, May 8: The IRCS Assam state branch observed the World Red Cross Day on Sunday with the theme ‘Be Humankind’, highlighting the humanitarian service worldwide. The idea to observe the day is their long journey and also reaffirm their commitment towards the humanitarian mission.
On the occasion IRCS Dima Hasao district organised a program in the premises of the DC’s conference hall with a series of humanitarian services including inauguration of Oxygen Concentrator bank for people suffering from serious illness at home and in dire need of oxygen concentrators. The IRCS secretary Nirmal Singh said that the service will be provided on availability with limited capacity to take to home and to return the same after use in good condition so it can be used by others when need arises. The IRCS Dima Hasao district president and deputy commissioner Nazreen Ahmed extended her gratitude to all the members for their services to the community in the district during the Covid-19 pandemic and on emergency, disaster response and urged all to keep on doing good work for the people in Dima Hasao district during emergencies. During the meeting, the IRCS also submitted an action plan and project for the year.
The chairman IRCS Pauramduing Jeme congratulated all the volunteers for their selfless service to the people of Dima Hasao. Apart from that, the district branch also felicitated the members of the IRCS district for their commendable and relentless services during Covid. The program was also attended by Shymal Nandi, vice chairman, Nantu Malakar treasurer, Ashish Dutta and other members.
It needs to be mentioned that the World Red Cross Day is also known as Red Crescent Day and is celebrated on May 8 every year. This date marks the birth anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, who is the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He is also a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was born on May 8, 1828. The design of the Red Cross originates from the First Geneva Convention in 1864.
