MANGALDAI, Oct18: J B Law College, Guwahati, clinched the title of the best team at the 35th All Assam Swahid Memorial Inter-College Debating Competition, hosted by Mangaldai College (Autonomous) on Friday. The event, centered on the motion “Autonomy in higher educational institutions is instrumental in enhancing the quality of higher education,” saw spirited participation from various institutions across Assam. Agastya Kashyap from J B Law College, speaking against the motion was adjudged the best debater, securing the individual trophy.
Gauhati University and Dr B K B College, Nagaon, secured the second and third positions, respectively. The winners received certificates, trophies, and cash prizes totaling Rs 25,000. The competition was moderated by Paresh Ch Sarma, a retired associate professor of Mangaldai College, with Dr Dhiren Deka (Mangaldai Commerce College), Dr Jintu Gohain (Paschim Guwahati College) and Dr Barnali Deka (Mangaldai College) serving as judges.
The inaugural session featured inspiring addresses by Dr Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal of Mangaldai College, Ramani Kanta Saharia, president of the college’s governing body, and Dr Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator of the IQAC, who extended their best wishes to the participants.
