Jagat Chandra Gogoi’s death mourned

SIVASAGAR, May 1: Former deputy superintendent of police, former Mr Assam, poet and social worker, Jagat Chandra Gogoi breathed his last on the April 29 at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.

He died of cardiac arrest in the hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the past few days.

The 68-year-old Gogoi was a resident of Habiram Road in Sivasagar. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and daughters-in-law. His last rights were performed at Santiban in Thanaghat on Tuesday in the presence of a large number of his loved ones, friends and neighbours.

During his lifetime Gogoi had penned two poetry collections, ‘Nibir Subash’ and ‘Boi jai Alakananda’. He was honoured with the Michael Madhusudan Award by Bangiya Sahitya Samaj in 2002. His poetry collection ‘Boi jai Alakananda’ was released at the International Book Fair in Kolkata by Cuban writer Louis Talado Sindey in 2002. He was a member of RSS, ISCON, and many social organizations.

Gogoi’s death has been mourned by the Sivasagar District Sports Association, Sivasagar Natya Sanaj, Brihattar Sivasagar Press Club, Rongpur Sahitya Sabha, Lachit Nagar Bornaamghar Samaj, Barowari Puja Committee, Sivasagar Municipality Tax Payers Association and a host of other organisations.
