JAGIROAD, July 3: Frequent power cuts at Jagiroad have caused immense trouble to the consumers in general and the student fraternity in particular. When the people here are suffering a lot following continuous rain and artificial flooding, the severe power disruption every half hour is adding fuel to the fire.
It is alleged that Jagiroad, a prospective town with the proposed TATA Semiconductor Project, is suffering a lot due to a lack of proper planning and development. The natural water flow at the base of the Sonaikuchi Hills is now gradually blocked, resulting in the entire town, particularly the north side of the four-lane highway, being artificially inundated during continuous rain.
Further, it is also alleged that due to apathy on the part of the APDCL, Jagiroad sub-division in the heart of the town, the entire APDCL area is artificially inundated. Huge waterlogging behind the APDCL consumer complaint centre has turned into a hub for mosquitoes, causing a threat to nearby residents. The APDCL authorities are not maintaining any drainage system in the area and are not taking any steps to drain out the waterlogged low-lying areas. There is every possibility of mosquito-borne diseases in these areas, locals alleged.
The concerned section urged the district administration to look into the matter seriously for a safe and healthy environment.
