BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 26: The serene Jarashar River, flowing on the outskirts of Balipara township, turned into a relentless force of destruction on Wednesday as its waters surged, causing extensive flooding in the surrounding areas. The floodwaters engulfed several localities, including Balipara commercial centre, Bam Gaon, Kumari Gaon, Dighali, Dighali Balijan, Udmari Gaon, Dhekeri Gaon, Bhobola Gaon, and Owhala village. Additionally, vast stretches of paddy fields were submerged, inflicting substantial losses on farmers. The Balipara PHC, Balipara Cooperative Society, APDCL office premises, Punjab National Bank premises, Kumari Gaon namghar, Kumari Gaon LP school, and Dighali Balijan LP school were also not spared by the floodwaters.
The swirling waters of River Jorakhar, triggered by incessant rain in the neighbouring hill state Arunachal Pradesh, caused widespread flooding in Balipara area under Charduar PS. The Balipara-Chardwar Road and Balipara-Jonai connecting NH-15 were temporarily blocked due to flooding.
Authorities have taken necessary measures to reroute traffic through alternative roads to minimize disruption. The SDRF is actively involved in rescue operations, helping flood victims find shelter in safer locations. The situation remains challenging as communities in both areas grapple with the aftermath of the devastating floods.
