Jorhat daughter secures rank in HS despite struggles

JORHAT, June 6: Nandita Das of CKB Commerce College of Jorhat, who secured 6th position in the Commerce stream, was the lone HS rank holder from district.

Nandita, eldest of three siblings, who resides in a rented house at Borbhetta Naoholia  Gaon on the outskirts here who belongs to an economically weak family, had a pleasant surprise when the results were declared on Tuesday.

Speaking to newspersons at her two room house, Nandita said that she had expected to well but did not expect a position in the top ten.
She said that she was in disbelief when she was told by the college authorities that she had achieved the 6th rank with 465 marks.

Nandita, turning a bit emotional said that her parents had toiled very hard to make ends meet and also acknowledged the support of the College faculty to prepare for the exams.

She said that her mother who worked as a cook in different houses had already left for work when her results were declared and her father who sells spices door to door on his two wheeler, was about to leave when news broke of her gaining a position.

Nandita said that she also contributed to the household income by offering tuitions.
Nandita was undecided about whether she would go for banking or teaching as a profession.
A procession was taken out by the college in her honour.
