BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 23: Joseph Narzary, a progressive farmer from Tharebari, under Agriculture circle Pabhoi on the northern part of Biswanath sets an example of self-reliance.
Narzary, a 42 years farmer, has been working in the field of agriculture for 20 years. Earlier to this, he had produced hybrid brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower, tomato through natural farming.
This time, Narzary has initiated farming of apple jujube in 3 bighas of agricultural land at Pabhoi. Talking to this correspondent, Narzary informed that he has earned more than Rs 1 lakh this year from selling the apple jujube. The demand for the new hybrid but delicious jujube is very high in the market. One jujube tree produces 20 to 25 kgs of the fruit in a season.
He received a power tiller with 85 percent government subsidy besides other agricultural equipment. With the earnings from agriculture, Narzary has managed to provide higher education to his daughters.
This time, he has planned to plant hybrid guava, litchi, orange, sweet lime, etc., in five bighas of land. Inspired by him, unemployed youths from Bhimajuli area have also come forward to take the same road as Narzary in the field of agriculture. Earlier to this, Narzary had undergone numerous orientations and skill-based training imparted by the department of Agriculture.
