Tezpur, Nov 09: The Kaliabhomora River Tourism Site, under the Kaziranga National Park and Brahmaputra Reserved Forest, was officially opened today for the 2025–26 tourism season. From today onwards, visitors can enjoy scenic boat rides from Bhomoraguri Ghat, offering a breathtaking view of the mighty Brahmaputra and its serene surroundings.
A new traditional food restaurant named ‘Xihu Traditional Food Restaurant’ and a local handicraft market run by indigenous communities were also inaugurated today. The new facilities aim to promote eco-tourism and local livelihoods by offering visitors a taste of traditional cuisine and locally made products.
Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rabha, while inaugurating the restaurant and joining the first boat ride, said, “If the two historical sites associated with Lord Shiva’s footprints—Bhairabpad in Bhomoraguri and Rudrapad in northern Tezpur—can be connected through the river route, the Kaliabhomora tourism area will gain a new dimension in the coming days.” He further emphasised the need for locals to be courteous and cooperative towards tourists, saying that the area could become as popular as Sikkim if hospitality standards improve.
Kaziranga National Park Director Dr Sonali Ghosh remarked that the Kaliabhomora region offers a unique experience where tourists can witness the playful river dolphins (Xihu) in the Brahmaputra. She expressed hope that this initiative would allow visitors to experience Kaziranga’s beauty in a different way.
The restaurant will be managed by the Chengelimari Eco-Development Committee under the initiative of Kaziranga National Park and the Brahmaputra Reserved Forest. Guests visiting the area for boat rides can enjoy traditional Assamese dishes at the riverside restaurant.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Western Assam Wildlife Circle DFO Piraisudan B, Nagaon Forest Officer Rajiv Hazarika, Biswanath Wildlife Division Officer Rituporna Bora, Social Forestry Officer Saumitra Das, and other dignitaries. On the first day, school students and visitors enjoyed the boat rides, marvelling at the vast expanse of the Brahmaputra and the sight of dolphins gliding through its waters.
