Guwahati, May 25: Amidst soaring temperatures and scorching heat, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro district has introduced a new schedule for school timings, effective from May 27. This decision comes as a proactive measure to safeguard the well-being of students amidst the rising mercury levels.
Under the revised schedule, both government provincialised and private schools in the district will see changes in their operational hours. Lower Primary (LP) schools will now commence classes from 7:30 AM to 12:00 Noon, while Middle English Schools (ME Schools) will extend their hours from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools (HS and HSS Schools) will follow suit with timings from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
In addition to adjusting school timings, measures have been implemented to minimize students’ exposure to the sweltering heat. Schools are directed to conduct morning assemblies indoors or in shaded areas to shield students from direct sunlight. Furthermore, it is mandated that electric fans be fully functional, with immediate repairs or replacements arranged for any faulty units.
To alleviate discomfort caused by the oppressive heat, modifications have also been made to the school dress code. Students are advised against wearing blazers, waistcoats, and ties during this period. Additionally, they have the option to wear sandals instead of shoes if they find it more comfortable.
By implementing these proactive measures, the district administration aims to prioritize the health and well-being of students during the challenging summer months.
